The Clipper Round the World race pits eleven 70-foot ocean racing yachts against each other in an astounding 40,000 nautical mile race around the world. The eight, grueling legs start in the U.K, then head to Uruguay, South Africa, Western then eastern Australia, Viet Nam, Seattle, and then D.C., before finishing back in the U.K.
Taoti teamed up with Events DC to play host as the Clipper fleet came to Washington!

Nothing about this race was small, which is why DC had to pull out all the stops to welcome the eleven yachts as they complete the 6,200-mile leg cleaved by the Panama Canal. And a five-day long party needed to rock.

So what did Taoti actually do for Fleet Week?
What DIDN’T we do??
Taoti oversaw and managed the entire event. We procured the vendors. We negotiated their terms and paid their bills. We came up with an event logo and brand identity and turned it into everything from digital signage to sidewalk art. We concepted and created an 8×24′ wooden canvas and set for a live muraling competition (that had to “look nautical, but not piratey.”) We climbed light poles to hang sails. We figured out ‘hydration stations’ when The Wharf decided it was too hot not to have any. We managed paid media and helped with social. We shot lots of video and took waaaaay too many pictures. We even provided a fireworks display from a floating barge (that’s a new one for the resume)!
When we say we’re a full-service agency, Events DC certainly put that to the test! Wish we could say we did it without breaking a sweat, but it was 104 degrees out!
In the end, the yachts departed on their last leg of their incredible journey, across the Atlantic and back to their starting point in the U.K. It was a showcase to remember for the city, the Wharf, the thousands of attendees, our clients at Events DC, and Taoti. We really enjoyed participating in the epic adventure that was Clipper Race Fleet Week and showcasing our skills to plan, design, and manage this spectacular, 5-day party.
