A Mobile First Site for Syrian Refugees.

PEER helps displaced Syrians build sustainable futures through education.

Platform for Education in Emergencies Response (PEER)

“You now have 25-year-olds who would have gone to university when they were 22, but have never been able to access it,” said IIE’s Scholar Rescue Fund senior research and communications manager, James King, of the Syrian refugee crisis in Inside Higher Ed in 2015. Two years later, there are still millions of displaced Syrians far from home and even farther from the degree they expected to have in hand by now.

IIE partnered with Taoti to ensure that young refugees and internally displaced persons (IDP) have a platform to respond to education in emergency. The platform offers young refugees and IDPs a clearinghouse of scholarship and educational opportunities. It offers institutions a medium for reaching out to these affected populations and enacting the change necessary to heal wounds, old and new.

The platform makes excellent use of a mobile-first, low-bandwidth design targeted towards users with little access to high-end smartphones and stable internet connections.
